We know you have an arsenal of Zahara lip colours, together with your squad of Anastasia Beverly Hills, Kat Von D and Huda Beauty matte liquid lipsticks but how do you make sure these lip colours remain flawless on your lips when you leave the comforts of your house? What started as a trend in 2015, liquid lipsticks in various finishes are here to stay.

Do you need a lip pencil first? How to you ‘stay within the lines’? Can you finish with a gloss? How do you reapply? Whether you’re new to the game, or you just have a billion questions, we’re here to help you out.

Exfoliate!

Liquid lipsticks almost always dry to matte. Or in some cases, really, really matte, which means all the cracks or peeling on your lips will be highlighted. Use a lip scrub that you can make at home with coconut oil, and sugar, or simply gently buff away dead skin with a toothbrush.

Moisturize!

Just because your lips are going to be matte doesn’t mean you’re not going to need to moisturize. Drink water, throw on lip masks before bed, and before you apply, apply a swipe of chapstick, or Vaseline and let it sit while you do the rest of your makeup. Wipe it away though before you apply your lip products.

Optional: Lip liner!

If you’re a newbie and you’re scared of mistakes, try starting with a lip liner first before you apply your liquid lipstick. This allows you to get used to your canvas.

Liquid Lip Ahoy!

Apply your liquid lipstick, and try not to sneeze! If it’s your first time applying the product, start applying sparingly before going over a second coat while you’re trying to get used to the product’s consistency.

Finishing touches

If you’ve messed up, wet a q-tip with makeup remover and simply dab it off. You’re ready to roll!
