Meet Hijarbie, the hijab-wearing Barbie

April 19, 2017 1 min read

Hijarbie, a hijab-wearing Barbie, has been taking the internet by storm. This iconic doll has been reinvented and is killing it in the Muslimah fashion scene! No longer do we associate Barbie as this impossibly skinny and scantily-clad doll but a chic, fashionably modest one. With her colourful hijabs, gorgeous abayas and contemporary dresses, it’s easy to see why so many women are falling in love with her. Her Instagram account @hijarbie has over 46, 000 followers since its inception 10 weeks ago!

Haneefah Adam

This highly-anticipated and long-overdue doll is the brainchild of 24-year old Haneefah Adam, a medical student hailing from Nigeria. The reason for creating Hijarbie? Well, she wanted girls to become more confident, driven and learn to appreciate themselves and their modest lifestyles. You go, Haneefah! We at Zahara think this is a wonderful platform to spread the Muslimah identity to the world by tapping on an iconic Mattel toy. Hijarbie is also a timely arrival as another role model for modest fashion, following Dolce & Gabanna’s abaya and hijab collection released at the start of the year.
