With over 23, 000 followers on Instagram, it’s no wonder Ainon Talib is a familiar name on social media! An accomplished Suria actress and TV show host, with shows like S.O.S, Re:TV and Jus under her belt, she has made a name for herself in the entertainment industry in Singapore. Not only was she the first hijabi to host a Suria TV show, her fairytale-like marriage to Erwan Gunawan epitomizes #relationshipgoals! Nowadays Ainon, who is also a Sociology graduate from National Univeristy of Singapore, is kept busy with her cutie-pie baby girl, Amaya. It’s hard to imagine that she’s accomplished so much…all by the age of 26! Ainon took some time from her busy schedule to talk to us at Zahara and here is the interview!

Happy family! – Erwan, Amaya & Ainon

What is one thing people would be surprised to know about you?
Ever since I was young, I wanted to be a stewardess badly. After my ‘O’ levels, I took a year off to give the service industry a try and decided to go into Human Resource Management in polytechnic. But when it came to a decision of whether I’d go to university or to go ahead with my dreams of being a cabin crew, I decided to go ahead with applying for university instead given that not many poly students are able to enter a local university.

Describe a typical weekday.
A typical weekday would be waking up at 9.30 a.m. to my human alarm, my daughter. Then feeding her, bathing her and putting her to sleep for her naps. Basically, now my life revolves around her and when I do get some me-time, it’ll be at 12.30 a.m. which is occupied with replying emails and scrolling through social media. On days I have work, it’ll be 4-8 hours away from her.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years’ time?
In 10 years’ time, I think I’d be a mother of two juggling between the kids and a couple of businesses. I would want to also still be doing my media work.

Gorgeous mother-daughter pair!

What is the best advice you’ve been given?
The best advice I’ve been given is to never take life too seriously because no matter what happens, there is always a solution and it’ll never be the end of the world.

Who are your heroes?
My heroes are my family, my parents and brothers. I am very fortunate to have family members who are always ready to protect me and aid me in every way they can. My husband is also my hero because he has the superpower of being able to always listen to my ramblings and keeping me calm. My favourite hero though is my mother’s helper, Yuri, for her never-ending ability to care for my daughter while I’m at work. She cooks, cleans and cares for both my parents and two cats. I still don’t know how she does it but she is definitely my life saviour.

What is the proudest accomplishment of your life so far?
I still don’t feel like I have accomplished much in life and would definitely like to do more but as of now, my biggest accomplishment would have to be surviving motherhood. I have greatly underestimated it. Aside from that, it would be being the first TV host to be wearing hijab on Suria channel.
