If you’ve not heard of Saima Chowdhury, well, where have you been? This young, intelligent and vivacious woman is an up-and-coming fashion photographer, blogger and YouTuber hailing from Birmingham, U.K. Seeing as she started when she was only 14 years old, it’s amazing to see how far she’s come. With over 112, 000 followers just on Instagram (we’re not even looking at her other social media!), we’re not the only ones who’s in love with her! Her blog features her photography portfolio, as well as shopping hauls, makeup tutorials and beauty regimes. Basically, what most of us go on YouTube for! Saima shot to fame when she was interviewed on BBC Asian Network in 2014 and was featured in the comedy web series, The Corner Shop Show. Seriously, why doesn’t she have her own TV show yet? Join us for a fun (and funny) interview with this talented Zahara Warrior!
Describe yourself in 3 words.
Positive, confident and funny (if I do say so myself lol!).
What’s one thing people would be surprised to know about you?
I’m terrified of frogs!
You’re currently living in Birmingham right now. Any cool spots we should know of if we’re visiting your hometown?
We have an awesome place called The Custard Factory where they have a bunch of really cool and quirky shops and cafes!
What’s the best advice you’ve been given?
LISTEN TO FATIMA (my best friend)! She’s always right about everything and always looks out for me.
What inspired you to start your own blog and Youtube channel?
I used to watch a lot of YouTube videos as a kid and loved that they made people smile! I was always interested in filming and editing and I love making people laugh so I though I’d give it a shot. It originally started as a comedy/chat channel but now I also make style videos.
How has the experience been thus far?
Interesting for sure! I’ve learnt a lot – not just about blogging/YouTube but about life in general.
What’s the funniest/craziest/weirdest moment you’ve had as a blogger/YouTuber?
I haven’t had any weird moments but I’ve had a really sweet one! I held a meet-and-greet once with a few other bloggers and a girl gave me a really sweet letter. She told me to read it at home but I couldn’t wait any longer so I decided to read it on the train home and I was in tears because it was so sweet. I still have that letter on my desk today.
As a Zahara Warrior, what advice would you give someone hoping to be a blogger/YouTuber like yourself?
Be yourself! Theres a lot of pressure in the creative industry to be a certain way. I think people forget that the most important thing that helps you not only in this industry but in life, is your individuality. Don’t lose sight of who you are.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years’ time?
This one is hard to answer because there’s SO much I want to do! Hopefully I’ve checked a bunch of stuff off my bucket list!
What should every woman try at least once in her life?
A konjac sponge! I add a bit of facial cleanser to mine and then scrub my face with it. It’s super gentle and it leaves your face feeling so silky smooth and LUSH!
What is the proudest accomplishment of your life so far?
Being on CBBC! I used to watch that channel all the time as a kid and it’s just mind-blowing that I’m actually on there now!
