What is one thing people would be surprised to know about you?
According to some of my fans, they were surprised when they find out I’m Muslim and a hijabi but does their favourite cartoon/fictional characters saying I’m breaking the stereotype that Muslim women are oppressed. (Although I’m not the only hijabi who does this kind of makeup/cosplay).
I think it’s amazing to know this has the opportunity to educate people. I mean we all know, some people see a hijab and think any number of ludicrous things.
What inspired you to be a makeup artist?
What inspired me, hmm…I went through a bad depression stage in life. I searched for something that could heal me. Something that I’m passionate about. So I decided to play with makeup. In 2008, I did the Joker makeup (from the movie “The Dark Knight”). It was the first character makeup I did. And in 2009, I discovered Promise Tamangon YouTube. I was so inspired by her. So my passion for makeup had grown since then.
