As loud-and-proud makeup junkies, Tiq Zulkifli has the enviable job as a junior buyer for Sephora Digital. Being wholly immersed in the beauty and fashion scene has made this 25 year-old a successful hijab fashion icon and a role model for muslimahs everywhere. She is undoubtedly one of the leaders of the modesty movement here in Singapore, with her effortlessly chic street style that is equal measure simplicity and swagger. Tiq is also on an admirable mission to remove the taboo of “too much makeup” as she believes makeup is a form of art and that an artist should explore this medium as much as she wants. *high five* We at Zahara also believe that there’s no such thing as too much makeup (but blending is key y’all)! Man, this is tough because I look up to so many women! I love Saufeeya B. Goodson for her colourful fashion sense. She is probably the woman who made me want to play with colours when it comes to my outfits. My second favourite style icon is Vivy Yusof for her chic and feminine style. Her outfits are always simple and doesn’t look like she’s trying too hard!
What should every woman try at least once in her life?
Putting on a bright lipstick! At times, a bright lipstick can brighten up your day!
What’s a makeup no-no?
Thinking that your makeup will look better if you buy expensive products. I’m a huge fan of drugstore makeup and I swear that sometimes, the best products are the cheap ones. It takes time to see what works for your skin, so even though there are so many recommendations out there, learn to explore the cosmetic world yourself. But of course, splurge when you have to! Get that palette from Sephora!
What brings you the greatest joy?
Gifting simply because I love looking at how the receiver’s face lights up when they open the package. I’m always so particular about the things I gift to people. If it’s a lip colour, make sure it’s something that suits her. Or if it’s a skincare product, I’ll make sure it’s something she can use.
What’s your favourite Zahara product?
The nail polishes. It dries up quickly and knowing that I can pray with it, makes the whole experience even more fun! The colour choices are also amazing.
As a Zahara Warrior, what advice would you give someone hoping to start her own fashion/beauty blog?
Create one, have fun with it and update it regularly! I like blogging as a hobby and the fact that beauty is what I deal with on a daily basis as a Beauty Buyer, it’s just the perfect topic for me to talk about on my blog besides fashion. Make sure you find joy and passion in this topics you talk about. When it comes to blogging, sincerity is number 1. If you force it, sometimes it will show in the way you write.
