Happy New Year Warriors! We hope you had a wonderful celebration and a bit of rest before the start of the year and are feeling ready to conquer 2019!

Thanks for all your support through our new nail polish launch that happened on the 17th of December. It was truly an exciting moment for us, we hope you enjoyed the new products. We made sure to listen to all your feedback and this is the new line of colours we came up with!

In case you don’t already know, we came out with 10 new bottles of polish. Of which, five were returning shades which you know and love like the must have staple shade,#LadyBoss andSimply Covered. The five other shades are new colours to Zahara featuring the all-time anticipated shades - black and white! Check outGalaxy, our darkest black shade,First Snow, a stunning white and theentire new collection over on our website now!

While we have so many new surprises coming your way this year, let’s jump into this week’s blog!

Now, have you ever wondered what you actually need in a mascara? Say, you want a mascara which lengthens your lashes without those awful clumps and flaking. Usually, we would look at the labels of different mascara which claim to have these features. Often times, I’ve regrettably bought mascara which really don’t do what it says!

I should warn you, whenever you go shopping for mascara - DO NOT USE THE TESTERS ON YOUR LASHES. This is more of a health and safety warning. We all know someone who’s gone into the shops, tried on a mascara (or two) and returned home with a serious eye infection. Once again, DO NOT under any circumstances use the mascara testers available in stores.

The purpose of these mascara testers is for you to assess the consistency of the formula whether it is thick or watery? Or does it dry out quickly? From this assessment, you should be able to determine whether this formula will suit your needs. For example, if you want volumized lashes, a thicker, whipped texture is what you should be looking for. It will help stick to your lashes to have them grow in size, not so much length.

A little-known fact about mascara formulas is that not much has changed since mascaras were made. Sure, you can tweak the consistency of the formula or even make it “waterproof” (which is terribly unhealthy for your lashes) but all in all, the formula, is not what you should be looking for.. You need to look at the brush and bristles.

I’ve created a table to help you check off your type of lashes and brush type so you can easily spot whether a mascara is good for you.

If you have a particular type of lashes you will need different properties to improve the look of them.

Above all, when it comes to choosing the right mascara brush for you, consider your eye shape and the brush size itself.

It doesn’t make sense for you to use a brush that is double the size of your eyes! You won’t be able to coat your lashes easily without making a mess or worse - gauging your eye out!

If you’re looking for something that is suitable for everyday wear, giving you a little lift and fluttery looking lashes, go for something like ourDaredevil Lashes mascara. It has long bristles that will coat your lashes well enough without that clumpy look.

Best of all it has a water-resistant formula, which means it’s not difficult to remove but it won’t smudge or flake throughout your day.

I hope this helps on your search for the perfect mascara for you, do let us know what you are looking for in a mascara and we will be happy to point you in the right direction!

Till next time!

Love from,
Zahara
