Let's do a recap — for those who are learning about Zahara Cosmetics for the first time, tell us about your journey and how Zahara came to life?
Zahara came about because my sister and I couldn't find a halal cosmetics brand that we really connected with. We really wanted to start using more halal products but couldn't find a makeup brand that was the same quality as our usuals such as MAC and Benefit. In short, we didn't want to compromise on quality and felt like we definitely shouldn't have to!
After that we spent 2 years on R&D to craft our dream halal makeup brand and we sincerely hope you love it as much as we do.
And how has the past two years been for you?
It's really been quite the roller coaster ride, starting a business is definitely the hardest thing I've ever done. Since we launched there have been some incredible highs and difficult lows, but at the end of the day I am still so happy and proud of what we are doing here and hope to keep bringing you more.
What inspired your decision to come up with a new product?
It's you girls! I've gotten so many requests for Halal Mascara that I just had to do it.
And why a mascara?
I think Mascara is so popular because it's the easiest makeup tool to elevate a makeup look. It's really a crucial aspect of any girl's eye makeup toolkit and rounds off the whole look. It is so impactful in enlarging the appearance of the eyes.
What sets Daredevil Lashes mascara apart from all the rest?
We've worked to create a build-able formula so ladies can use it to suit their eyelashes. It's non-clumping formula means whether you want length or volume you can keep adding to reach your desired effect.
What's your favourite part about owning your own beauty brand?
I love creating new products. It's a very long and tedious process but at the end of it all there's no better feeling than creating a beautiful product that you love and want to use every single day!
And what's the most challenging?
Running Zahara has kind of become like a juggling act, there are so many moving parts that need attention and it can be a real challenge to make sure all my balls are still in the air! Especially as we grow and more things get added to the list. It's definitely a huge challenge, but thankfully it also gives me the opportunity to learn something new every single day.
What can we expect from Zahara in the near future?
Mascara! Launching September 8th and I'm so super excited for everyone to try it. It's become my new staple and don't leave the house without it. After Mascara we will also be launching new shades to our product lines but feel free to message us if you have any more thoughts on what you want to see next!
