As more people become discerning about what goes into the products they use on a daily basis, a rise of a particular genre of cosmetics cannot be ignored, and it is one that we’re more than familiar with — halal makeup. While organic and vegan makeup products are de rigueur these days, halal makeup, to those who are not familiar with it, require a little bit more googling.

Halal cosmetics refer to beauty products that have been manufactured, produced and composed of ingredients that are permissible under Islam. These means that there are no haram ingredients in the makeup, meaning not contain any pork, animals that were dead prior to slaughtering, blood, alcohol, or carnivorous animals.

While Muslims have always adhered to Halal restrictions, this new shift in beauty purchases come about in a time when educated Muslim consumers realise that the products applied to their skin, the largest organ in the human body, should too, adhere to the tenets of Islam as well.

To be Halal-recognized, the certifying body needs to be able to track down every single ingredient used in the product to make sure that it was created under the Sharia Law. The process takes months, and often comes with a hefty fee.

Zahara Cosmetics is proud to bring Halal, high-performance makeup into the world, that bridges the lines between beauty and faith.
