Haney Hadad first fell in love with handbags when she saw them in her grandmother’s wardrobe when she was just a little girl. From then on, her fascination with handbags grew. When she was working in the media industry as a TV Presenter and MTV VJ, she was constantly surrounded by famous celebrities, stylish fashionistas and beautiful clothes. This gave her the idea of combining fashion and function to design the perfect handbag…and Haney Handbags was born! Her infinite passion for handbags was something that she wanted to share with the world, together with her beautifully-crafted products. This gorgeous mother of two calls herself a “mumpreneur” as she is currently juggling her handbag business, teaching in a high school and her family in Brisbane, Australia. Phew, talk about a superwoman! We’re grateful Haney took some time from her busy schedule to talk to us about how she got started and her style icons. Read on, ladies!

What is one thing people would be surprised to know about you?
One thing people would be surprised to know about me is that I’m a bit OCD. Well I think I’m just a very organised person but my husband thinks I’m OCD! Hahaha! I like things to be in order. My wardrobe is colour-coded and even the things in my bag are perfectly placed and organised.
What inspired you to start your own company?
I’ve always loved handbags. I can wear the same jeans and T-shirt but I’ll change my bags! It started out with looking at the handbags women were carrying and the ones that I have and I thought about changing the colour, size of the bag, length of handle, adding pockets etc. My grandmother is also my inspiration. She’s the one that got me interested in handbags. I used to stay over at her place and I would ogle at her handbags all arranged nicely in line in her wardrobe. She would change handbags to suit her clothes and I love that. She is 90 years old and she still does that. Amazing inspiration to my passion for handbags. I wasn’t working and looking after my kids and I felt it was time to realise my dream – which is having my own label of handbags and I did it!
Who would you like to collaborate with next and why?
I actually thought of collaborating with celebrities and having their special print or handbag design. Maybe in the future. I might also collaborate with sister, Lulu. I haven’t thought much about collaboration. I will start thinking about it now…

As a Zahara Warrior, what advice would you give someone who wants to start her own company one day?
First of all, you need that love and passion for what you do and your product. Lots of sacrifices and it’s important to have a business plan. Love what you do and you don’t have to work a day in your life!
Who are your style icons?
Well my grandmother for one! I love Olivia Palermo style. Very sophisticated and classy. I also love Audrey Hepburn. I love boho looks as well and Nicole Richie is pretty good at nailing that look.
What is the proudest accomplishment of your life so far?
Proudest accomplishment of my life is definitely my 2 beautiful children. Oh and also when I see beautiful ladies carrying my beautiful bags Both warm my heart!
