Zahara breathable nail polish utilizes a special formula that allows oxygen and water vapor to pass through the surface of the polish and reach your beautiful nails. Why is this important?
HEALTHIER: no more yellow oxygen deprived nails!
WATER PERMEABLE: so that you can still take your prayer water
5 FREE: free of the common harmful chemicals that are found in nail polishes (No Toluene, Dibutyl Phthalate, Formaldehyde, Formaldehyde resin and Camphor)
HIGH PERFORMANCE: thinner than regular nail polish but still highly pigmented with a beautiful glossy finish.
EASY TO REMOVE: quick removal with any nail polish remover
VEGAN: free of animal by-products
We have sent our nail polish to a 3rd party lab to test the water-permeability of our nail polishes, you can view the lab report here.
The test method: nail polish is painted onto filter paper and a hygrometer (an instrument that measures water content in the atmosphere) is placed below the paper. Water is then rubbed onto the surface of the polish while the water level is measured on the other side of the filter with the hygrometer.
The results: for both the 1 coat and the 2 coat experiments water level in the atmosphere increased to 95%, proving water permeability.
You need nail polish remover to remove the polish. We will be launching our own alcohol and acetone free nail polish remover in January 2016, but till then any nail polish remover will do.
Normally our nail polish lasts about 5 days before chipping, but it totally depends on the individual and how rough you are with your hands!
It depends on the shade, but the base for most of our nail polishes are-
butyl acetate, ethyl acetate, nitrocellulose, adipic acid/ neopentyl glycol/ trimellitic anhydride copolymer, acetyl tributyl citrate, isopropyl alcohol, diacetone alcohol, stearalkonium bentonite, silica, sucrose acetate isobutyrate, acrylates copolymer, dimethicone, phosphoric acid, n-butyl alcohol, styrene/ acrylates copolymer, trimethylpentanediyl dibenzoate, benzophenone-1, trimethylsiloxysilicate
On this issue we refer to Fatwa #12532 from Shaykh (Mufti) Ebrahim Desai
“If alcohol is derived from grapes or dates, it will be haram and impure. If it is from anything else besides dates and grapes and it does not intoxicate directly or through a mixture, then it is permissible.”
Zahara nail polish contains isopropyl alcohol, diacetone alcohol and n-butyl alcohol. These are not alcohols like drinking alcohols, it is a chemical alcohol that is not derived from grapes or dates and does not cause intoxication.
These alcohols are different to ethanol, the alcohol found in beverages like beer, wine and liquors. In Chemistry, alcohol is a general term for any organic compound in which a hydroxyl group (-OH) is bound to a carbon atom, which is bound to other hydrogen and/or carbon atoms.
There is no Islamic legislation against alcohols as a chemical group but instead prohibits intoxicants. The ‘alcohols’ present in Zahara nail polish are purely chemical solvents and are in no way intoxifying.
We are proud to announce that we have obtained halal certification for our nail polishes by the Globally renowned International Halal Integrity Alliance.
