Pantone Colour of The Year 2016

April 19, 2017 2 min read

2015 has just passed and it’s been one heck of a year. We’ve witnessed the legalization of same-sex marriages in America, the birth of Princess Charlotte of the Royal Family, the devastating Mecca crane accident, the terrorist attacks in Paris, the unexpectedly anticipated return of Justin Bieber and the seventh episode of the Star Wars saga…all in one year! As we usher in the new year, Pantone’s Colour of Year 2016 looks set to help us embrace a peaceful and resilient attitude to help us through the opportunities and challenges ahead.

For the first time ever, Pantone has released two colours for its Colour of the Year series: Rose Quartz and Serenity. Rose Quartz, a beautiful, warm pink tone, evokes feelings of love, femininity and tenderness. Serenity, a rich, pale blue, brings to mind strength, stability and peace. Leatrice Eiserman, Executive Director of Pantone Colour Institute, revealed that when these two colours are combined, it demonstrates “connection and wellness as well as a soothing sense of order and peace.” (Retrieved from www.pantone.com)

We agree wholeheartedly Pantone! Not only do Rose Quartz and Serenity perfectly capture the peaceful and resilient attitude that we’re embracing this year, these colours are so pretty and delicate, it’ll make us feel more like the queens that we are. Just take a look at the ever-gorgeous Cate Blanchett and Malin Ackerman rocking Rose Quartz and Serenity respectively on the red carpet at the recent Golden Globe Awards.

Whether we are experimenting with Pantone’s Colour of Year in our makeup, wardrobe or on our nails, they’ll be sure to inspire beauty, not just in ourselves, but in others too. Try adding a Rose Quartz eyeshadow to your daily makeup look or pairing a pale Serenity blue blazer with your LBD or you can go all out and mix these two colours together! Peace, love and strength…that sounds like a good way to start the year, doesn’t it?
