The name ‘Adlina Anis’ has always been synonymous with fashion. A graduate of design school from Temasek Polytechnic, she got her start as an assistant for prestigious fashion magazines like August Man and L’Officiel. But our Zahara Warrior wanted more for herself; she wanted to be an entrepreneur. After more than 7 years in the publishing world, she finally started her own clothing company, www.adlinaanis.com, which stocks a variety of hijabs as well as chic and classic modest wear. By cleverly tapping on social media and YouTube, Adlina makes sure her brand is both prominent and desirable. With over 37,000 followers on Instagram and close to 2 million views for her hijab tutorials on Youtube, it’s no wonder everyone wants a slice of the Adlina pie!
To add icing to the proverbial cake, she can now list ‘innovator‘ to her already-impressive résumé. Earlier this year, this resident genius made the world rethink the hijab by inventing the first-ever Ninja Echo hijab. Adlina was inspired by her doctor friend who found it difficult to use stethoscopes while donning the hijab, and her own issues when using earphones. Thus the Ninja Echo, with its special flaps on the sides of the hijab, was born. Here’s our exclusive interview with this multi-talented entrepreneur so read on to find out about her thoughts on style, beauty, her company and even herself!

Decisive, meticulous, assertive, passionate, determined, romantic, hard-headed, bossy, compassionate, direct.
What is one thing people would be surprised to know about you?
I am actually an introvert. I’m extremely shy but my job requires me to be the exact opposite so it can be quite a struggle.
What inspired you to start your own clothing line?
I have always known what my end goal was when I went into fashion design in school. That was the determined and decisive part of me. Everything from then on was to pave the way to what has now become a reality.
Where do you see your company in 5 years’ time?
I hope we can expand and go really global; a brand that is widely known, respected and treasured by fans.
As a Zahara Warrior, what advice would you give someone hoping to start her own company one day?
The road is never easy, have a goal in mind and ensure that every step you make is headed towards that goal. Be resourceful and find a good team to back you. No empire was made with only one person at the helm.

It all stemmed from my own personal need. But of course my main inspiration comes from the women around me; from my mom, my sisters to my girlfriends. No idea is too small to be looked into.
Who are your style icons?
I love women who have timeless elegance like Queen Sheikha Moza, Diane Von Furstenberg and Jackie O. They transcend time and are always looking like they can command a room.
What is the proudest accomplishment of your life so far?
My business is of course my proudest accomplishment. I didn’t think I could get here in the beginning and if it was even possible!
